Horizon BlueCross BlueShield Coverage Availability & Fees

Like most dental insurance plans, the Horizon BlueCross BlueShield (Traditional Plan) prioritizes preventive services. Specific coverage availability and fees will depend on your unique policy, but you can generally expect to have 90% - 100% of your preventive dental care costs covered. This includes two checkup and cleaning appointments per year as well as X-rays.

Coverage for major and minor dental services can vary more wildly. You’ll likely be responsible for at least some of your expenses, which will be represented by a coinsurance amount. For example, if your coinsurance for a given treatment is 80%, that means after meeting your deductible, your insurance plan will cover 80% of the costs, and you’ll pay the remaining 20%.

Deductibles add another layer to your coverage availability and fees. Basically, this is the amount of money you’ll have to spend out-of-pocket before certain benefits will “kick in.” Fortunately, checkups, cleanings, and X-rays are typically exceptions to this rule, so you can always count on your routine appointments being affordable!
