4 Reasons You May Need a Tooth Extraction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Your dentist wants you to have a healthy, beautiful smile, and thus is committed to preserving your natural teeth for as long as he can. However, sometimes it is safer for both your remaining teeth and your overall health and wellbeing to remove certain ones before they have a chance to cause more harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Space Creation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Although the human mouth should theoretically accommodate 16 teeth on each arch (including 14 regular teeth and usually four wisdom teeth), sometimes the jaw isn\u2019t quite big enough to do so comfortably and may even experience crowding or other orthodontic problems as a result. In these situations, your dentist or orthodontist may recommend removing back molars to make room for the front teeth to shift into a more ideal alignment, making it easier to keep your smile clean and reduce your risk of periodontal disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tooth Infections<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Tooth Decay or Breakage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ideally, your dentist should be able to restore the appearance and function of a decayed or broken tooth with a dental crown or filling; however, if the damage is too severe for treatment, it may need to be extracted and replaced with a dental crown, bridge, or implant<\/a> after your mouth has healed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gum Disease<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Did you know that nearly half of all people 30 and older in the US have some stage of gum disease? While this extremely common condition can be completely reversed if treated promptly, if it has become too far advanced to eliminate by improving your oral hygiene at home, your dentist may need to extract teeth that have become loosened by weakened ligaments and jawbone deterioration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
