One of the most significant advances in dentistry over the past few years has been the development of AIR ABRASION, a system that allows us to eliminate drilling in many cases. Air abrasion is really “particle abrasion” whereby thousands of tiny sand like particles are directed at a decayed tooth so that the decay can be conservatively removed!

Compared to a drill, Air Abrasion:

• Generally requires no needles
• Is quieter
• Saves more tooth structure
• Is more comfortable

While this technique cannot be used for teeth requiring more extensive restorations, like crowns or onlays, it is a wonderful alternative for small and medium size cavities. And of course, the fillings will be invisible.
